Burnside tops women's open field once again

Tanya Burnside won the ladies' open golf tournament at the Thompson Golf Club for the second year in a row July 10, improving on her 2009 score by one stroke, as she recorded a 71 in the one-round tournament.

She finished 14 strokes ahead of Chris Chene, who shot an 85. Faye Pilling bettered her fourth-place showing last year by one spot, finishing third in the championship flight with a score of 88, while last year's runner-up, Marlene Dram, was fourth, shooting a 91.

Jessica Brass captured top spot in the first flight, with a score of 108, followed by Shauna Kortz (108), Shauna Lounsbury (111) and Caroline Azure (112).

Marie Moody was the sceond-flight winner, with Pam Hart, Anne Shifflett and Dianna Gallant the runners-up.

The third flight saw Sabrian Ewen take top spot, followed by Eliza Sinclair, Mary Azure and Joanne Jervis.

Carmer Hepp won the fourth flight, finishing ahead of Muriel Burnett, Steph Holmes and Jacquie Bugg.

Burnside also took the prize for the low hidden hole score, while Joanne Hayes won for the high hidden hole.

Fifty-two golfers took part in the tournament, which has now been running for 37 years.
