Municipal work crews were making temporary repairs to the runway at the Thompson Airport with the intent of having passenger jet service resume by Aug. 20 at the latest.

City council approved a motion to grant a request from Jo Lutley of the Zoological Society to reallocated $6,000 of the Thompson Zoo's funding towards the construction of a new duck pond.
Aboriginal people from Thompson and the surrounding area staged a protest march in the city in support of the Mohawk protest in Quebec, with Robert Wavey, chairman of MKO, saying that organization supported the actions being taken in Oka.

Mayor Bill Comaskey was on hand at Warehouse One for the official "unzipping" of the new store, which had moved from the Thompson Plaza to the City Centre Mall.
The mayor said he had a commitment from Safeway to work at leasing their Westwood Mall space that had been sitting idle since the Westwood Safeway closed, though there was no legal way to compel them. "While it may not be illegal, it certainly is grossly immoral," he said.
