30 Years Ago

Expansion plans for the Thompson Zoo, which included a section for farm animals, were presented to city council. The developments were contingent upon the availability of funds and construction was expected to being that summer.

Roger, Rick, Rod and Betty Gagnon combined to win six out of seven races at Centennial Speedway as the Thompson Stock Car Club held their third meet of the 1980 racing season.

20 Years Ago

Direct access to Winnipeg via Highway 6 was interrupted as First Nations protesters blocked the road at Grand Rapids in support of the Mohawk protest in Oka, Quebec.

David Comaskey shot an even-par 74 to win the boys division of the Thompson junior golf tournament while Sherri Poleschuk was the girls' champion with a score of 86.

10 Years Ago

Lane Boles, a district park supervisor for Manitoba Natural Resources, and RCMP officer Cpl. Dario Cecchin borrowed a boat to save two children stuck on a raft in the Burntwood River after Boles' daughter and her friend alerted him to the situation.

The Manitoba Metis Federation was building three large log playhouses to be auctioned off to raise money for a program similar to Habitat for Humanity.
