Stark reminder

This sign, sponsored by the Manitoba Natural Resource Officers Association and the Government of Manitoba, on the west side of Highway 6, about 40 kilometres north of Grand Rapids, reminds drivers what the cost of the human-caused Norris Lake forest fire was to Manitoba taxpayers to suppress it in May and June 2008. Smoke and fire crossed the highway and Highway 6 north of Grand Rapids and south of Ponton was closed at times because of the heavy smoke and fire crossing the highway. At the time, it burned more than 43,000 hectares and was the largest forest fire burning out of control in the province.
