My BlackBerry Messenger name is, “Positive Thoughts.” My Facebook comment section reads, “Speak kindly, care deeply and love generously.” I have words of wisdom around my office and inspirational messages such as joy, dance, and sing, which will often make me smile. Inspirational words also float around our home such as “Live every moment, love, hope, faith” and on the wall above my bed it says “life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.”
I love surrounding myself with positive thoughts and positive people. I plan on living to be a 100, which isn’t very long since I’m close to saying the first half has flown by. My father can remember very fine details of his childhood where I only have certain ones that will stand out in my memory. I remember having my finger squashed in the car door, and again in a folding chair. I also remember blowing out candles on a beautiful butterfly birthday cake with lots of coconut, spending time with my cousins back in Newfoundland, and going to bingo and shopping with my Nan. I remember moving to Thompson when I was eight, figure skating lessons at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena and moving back home 10 months later.
My heart was ripped apart when we left home again and headed west for Thompson, but my parents always made sure we had plenty of family vacations and trips to see family.
Family time has been a major part of my life and this past week it’s been a blessing having my two little grandsons come to stay. We got to enjoy them four nights in a row and my Facebook friends must be sick of me posting their photos and videos on my page. The youngest, who is four years old, and I have been sharing a secret now since he’s been two. Whenever I first see him I’ll say “Jacob, do you remember our secret” and we’ll share our secret over and over again every time we meet. To us it never gets old.
I want to stay forever young in my heart. I love getting up and going to work but the past few days I would have liked to stay home with them. Tomorrow they’ll return home to their parents and the house will have no more little pitter patter of feet running around, but we have two cats, two dogs and a parrot to make sure it’s not perfectly peaceful.
I’ll see them again throughout the week and will surely see them on family day, which we share on the weekends. There’s no invitation, just family calls to say they’re coming out and I’ll know how much food to prepare. If I’m lucky my brother and his family will drive out, my daughter and her family, or it could even be my ex-husband and his family. By the way, my favourite sign in our home reads, “As far as anyone knows we’re a nice normal family.”
