Norway House product and former Norman Northstar Myles Stevens is taking his game south of the border next season, as he has signed a pro contract with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League.
Stevens, who spent his last three seasons as a member of the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, finishes his junior career with 145 assists, the second-most in franchise history, after posting three consecutive 70-point seasons with the team.
One of three forwards named to the MJHL's second all-star team at the conclusion of the regular season in February, Stevens tied for the first-round playoff scoring lead with three other players, recording nine points while knocking the Portage Terriers out in five games. Four of those points, all assists, came in the third period of a stunning comeback, as the Stampeders rallied from a 4-0 deficit on the road to take a three games to none lead in that series. He was a runner-up for MJHL player of the week after that performance.
Earlier in the 2009-10 season, he was named player of the week after recording two goals and six assists in three games.
He finished last season with 27 goals and 51 assists for 78 points, all junior career highs. In 2008-09, he potted 26 goals and 45 assists, while in 2007-08, Stevens had 26 goals and 47 assists.
Stevens is no stranger to the penalty box, having recorded more than 100 penalty minutes in each of his three full seasons as a Stamp, including 164 in 2008-09 and 161 last season.
In the 2006-07 season with the Norman Northstars, Stevens finished second to Cody Genaille in team scoring, registering 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 points in just 30 games, and was named the squad's most valuable player. He also had two assists in 10 games with Swan Valley.
