Manslaughter charges in Garden Hill

Two 16-year-olds have been charged with manslaughter after an incident in the Garden Hill First Nation on July 11.

According to Winnipeg-based RCMP spokesperson Const. Miles Hiebert, RCMP in Island Lake received a call in the early morning hours of July 11, informing them of a serious assault. The victim, 32-year-old Terence Fiddler, later died.

Two 16-year-old males from Garden Hill were arrested and charged with manslaughter, and will appear at provincial youth court in Winnipeg on the afternoon of July 13. A post-mortem will be conducted on the body on July 12, also in Winnipeg.

Island Lake RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP in Winnipeg and Thompson, continue to investigate this killing. This is the second homicide case in Garden Hill this year, following the murder of Mary Wood in January.
