Twenty Thompsonites take part in Manitoba Marathon events

Hash Pereira of Thompson finished 374th in the Manitoba Marathon June 20 in Winnipeg.

Twenty runners and walkers from Thompson slipped on their running shoes to participate in Manitoba Marathon events June 20 in Winnipeg.

Hash Pereira was the fastest finisher of the two Thompsonites who entered the full 42.195-kilometre marathon, running the course in 4:22:25 to finish 374th overall.

Jason Lafleur finished in 641st place with a time of 5:31:40.

The half-marathon was the most popular event of the day for Thompson runners, with 26 completing the event, led by Don Wood, who finished 109th with a time of 1:35:20 and was closely followed by Thompson's top female finisher Angela Bakos in 168th place with a time of 1:38:42. Others who completed the half-marathon in less than two hours were Shane MacDonald, Karin MacDonald, Rob Zoller, Ellana Friesen, Delores McKay and Dennis Fenske.

Other Nickel City half-marathon runners were Louise Stuart, Hope O'Handley, Alysha Nielsen, Jacquie Dram, Megan McDonald, Randy McKay, Rachelle MacDonald, Chris Simes, Kristin Katchmar, Randi Palmer, Raymond Beaupre, Karen Beaupre, Erica Beaupre, Sharon Pankratz, Donna Johnston, Liisa Seguin and Alicia French, who all finished between the two-hour and three-hour marks.

Six Thompson participants finished the 10-kilometre walk, including two-year-old Kristopher Bentley-O'Connell and three-year-olds Haylie Bentley-O'Connell and Thundra Fiddler, along with April Lafleur, Selacia Lafleur and Harold MacDonald.

Super Run participants from Thompson were Keith Guay and seven-year-old Dylan Mulholland.
