Juniors storm back, eliminate North Stars

The Peguis Juniors fought back with three straight wins, including one in Norway House, to win their first-round Keystone Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Norway House North Stars at two games apiece.

The Juniors scored three times in the second period March 2 to complete the comeback, winning 4-1 and taking the series three games to two after dropping the first two games to Norway House.

Derrick Sinclair, Dwight Sutherland and Kris Sinclair had the goals for Peguis in the middle frame. Jon Mowat opened the scoring in the first, just over two minutes into the game, but Kris Sinclair tied things up near the midway point.

Peguis scored three times in the opening period of game three Feb. 27 after Norway House had gone up 1-0 on a goal by Skylar Tait-Reaume, then outscored the North Stars 2-1 in the second period and 3-1 in the third to post an 8-3 victory for their first win of the series.

Kelly Prince led Peguis with a pair of goals, while Aaron Sinclair, Clifton Campbell, Spencer Sutherland, Doug Daniels, Jordan Flett and Kris Sinclair had singles. Campbell also recorded two assists, as did Cole Murdock and Evan Spence. John Ducharme and Edward Lathlin had the other goals for Norway House. Eleven players were ejected from the game after a brawl with 2:28 remaining, including both starting goaltenders.

The teams were tied 3-3 after 40 minutes Feb. 28, but Prince scored a power play goal for the Juniors early in the third period to give them a 4-3 win and knot the series at two games apiece.

Derrick Sinclair opened the scoring for Peguis with 68 seconds left in the opening frame, while Grant Sutherland and Daniels had the Juniors' goals in the second period. Preston Folster, Cody Einarson and Mowat all scored for Norway House in the middle stanza. Tait-Reaume had two assists in the game, which saw Norway House outshoot Peguis 34-28, including 15-4 in the third period.
