Stevens leading way in MJHL playoffs

Myles Stevens

Manitoba Junior Hockey League second team all-star Myles Stevens of Norway House is tied for the MJHL's playoff scoring lead with seven points in three games as he has led his Swan Valley Stampeders to a commanding three-games-to-none series lead over the defending champion Portage Terriers.

Stevens recorded four assists in game three of the series March 2, all in the third period, as the Stampeders rallied from a 4-0 deficit on the road to win 5-4.

Two nights earlier at home, he set up Chris Reimer's overtime game-winner 11-10 into the extra frame as Swan Valley prevailed 2-1 after giving up the first goal of the game.

Stevens opened the playoffs with a pair of goals Feb. 26, including the game-winner 26 seconds into the third period as Swan Valley posted a 4-3 win. His first goal of the game opened the scoring and was assisted by fellow Norway House native Brent Wilson.

The fourth game of the series was scheduled for last night in Swan Valley.

Stevens and Wilson are both former members of the Norman Northstars midget AAA hockey team based in Thompson.
