Wild sweep Northstars

The Winnipeg Wild, the league's top team, swept the Norman Northstars out of the second round of the Manitoba AAA Midget League playoffs in three straight games, delivering the final blow March 1 in a 6-2 victory that saw Winnipeg score all its goals in the last 10 minutes of the first period.

The Northstars were outscored 19-3 in the series, which started with a 7-1 Wild victory Feb. 27 as Winnipeg peppered Northstars goaltender Ryan Delorme with 43 shots, including 23 in the first period. Brett Ferguson had the Northstars' lone goal. The game included a second period line brawl and ended with 76 minutes in penalties for the Northstars and 99 for the Wild.

The second game saw former Northstars netminder Cory Nygaard shut out his former team 6-0 with 33 saves. Mitchell Backhouse started the game and allowed three goals before being replaced by Delorme.
