30 Years Ago

John Ashton, head of environmental control for Inco's Thompson site, said arsenic levels posed no threat whatsoever to workers.

Johanna Gourlie and Darcy McCurdy were named as members of the provincial ringette team, which would make its debut appearance at the Canada Games in 1991.

20 Years Ago

February temperatures averaged -20.2 C, 2.7 degrees above normal. The coldest temperature of -40.7 C occurred on Feb. 29.

The 80-member Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra was in Thompson for a concert at the R.D. Parker Collegiate auditorium.

10 Years Ago

Police responded to an alarm at Don Johnson's Jewellers and, assisted by a police service dog, apprehended an adult male armed with a knife who had $7,200 worth of jewelry and merchandise.

Mayor Bill Comaskey told council that the Salvation Army had agreed to run a homeless shelter program similar to one in Winnipeg but that it would require provincial and federal government funding to become a reality.
