Scholarships don’t always require ‘amazing’ academic grades

Here we are again. In the past two weeks things have been a bit quiet but you never know with our school how long that will last.

Baraboo's cast and crew have been working hard having practices before school, at lunch and after school, sometimes even on weekends and any days we have off from school. They are getting the set together, practicing magic acts, and clown acts. We've even seen some unicyclists and stilt walkers. Every Wednesday evening the cast practices for over 4 hours getting everything right. Their dedication to this play is seriously astounding, they even have kids as young as five in the play who show up on Wednesday nights and are there for the whole thing. You probably won't want to miss Baraboo: The Last Show on Earth if their preparations are anything to go by. The play is set to debut on the same weekend as the trade show in early May.

Thinking of working hard, check out what the prom committee is working on. The school meetings are still on Mondays at lunch in the upper theatre. The parent meetings however are in the evening, the next of which is March 15. These amazing girls and parents have been attending meetings, fundraising, designing, pricing and pretty much everything under the sun to make this prom the best yet. The latest on their fundraising is that they have sold chocolates and are at this present time selling party light wares. Prom is May 14 this year and it's definitely going to be an amazing event.

Graduation is June 25, so if you're planning on graduating be sure to do your grad check and pay your grad fee before spring break! If you're interested in scholarships head down to student services and check out the folders they are filled with all sorts of scholarships; some you don't even need amazing grades for. There are quite a few and more get added pretty often, so check often! Grad rings were on Feb. 24, but if you still want to get a ring you can order them from the Jostens website www.Jostens.com. You will need to know your ring size before you order though.

The band students are gearing up for the Brandon Jazz Festival from March 18-21 where they will be attending clinics, playing for masters and sitting in on some master’s classes. According to Briana Luxton, a Grade 12 student and long-time clarinet player, “We had a lot of fun last year, and it should be a lot of fun this year too.” Good luck guys!

There was no school on Feb. 24, so I hope you all got caught up on any homework or projects that you were behind on. You should try to keep up; it will help you in the long run, especially when it comes to exams.

That's all for this column, hope your weeks are bright and your days warm. Spring is almost here!
