Arctic Drive parent urges motorists to use parking lot rather than illegally parking on street

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter as a parent and a concerned driver in the City of Thompson. I live on Arctic Drive and have noticed that more and more adults picking up their children at Burntwood Elementary School can’t seem to see the “No Parking Signs” all down Arctic Drive.

The vehicles are lined up and down the street instead of utilizing the parking lot that is for that very purpose. I am afraid, for one, that a child is going to run out between the vehicles, not realizing that there is still traffic moving, or that one of the vehicles will pull out and start driving, without looking and end up in an accident.

Arctic Drive is a two-lane street and when you are parked on the street, it makes it very difficult for vehicles trying to drive past each other when there are other vehicles parked where they are not supposed to be. I realize that we are all on a time schedule and don’t want to waste more time, but for the sake of the children and other drivers, please take the time to pull into the parking lot and pick up your children there.
