To the Editor:

As I sat here thinking of how to write this letter, I just kept coming back to all the wonderful people I have had the opportunity to work with in our City of Thompson and in all the surrounding reserves and communities here in Northern Manitoba, and representing Manitoba and Canada as part of the RCMP in Canada, overseas and as of late in the television series Courage in Red.

The experiences that I have been a part of during different levels of policing over the past 16 years in the North have been so rewarding and life altering, and at times leaves me speechless. The North has been part of my life since 1976, when I first moved to Thompson, and therefore has contributed to my passion of working to make Thompson and the North safer. We have so many wonderful people working together tirelessly in the North, whether it is the emergency services, schools, coaches, counsellors, volunteers, social groups – all working together for a common result – to make Thompson and the North a better place!

Because of my experiences, the decision that I made to leave the RCMP was difficult but a necessary change. As of today, I have officially retired from my position. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCMP for the opportunities that I was given within the organization. I would also like to thank the ladies at the front desk of the detachment. Being in the public relations position, the phone rang continuously for presentations and their patience and people skills really complemented this position!

As part of my position I had the opportunity to work with youth in all walks of like. This was probably the most educational time for me as I realized if change needs to happen involving youth, ensure they are involved in making decisions. I attended Wapanohk Community School once a week, and I would like to thank each one of the students for the respect they have shown towards police in their school. Each of you is special. Be the best you can be and reach for the stars!

There are so many partners that I would like to thank for their dedication to our community and programs. The saying "it takes a community to raise a child" is true, and with the perseverance of everyone we can continually chip away at this endeavour. "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant."

I am not leaving Thompson, as this is home, so I will not say goodbye. Till we meet again, thank you!
