Vale Inco spokesman says their ad was contrary to the company's SafeProduction philosophy

To the Editor:

I am writing with regard to the Vale Inco advertisement that appeared in the Thompson Citizen and Nickel Belt News the week of Dec. 21, 2009.  A variation of this ad was also distributed to residences in Thompson the week of Dec. 28.

It was brought to our attention, and probably noticed by many who glanced at the ad, that the individuals shown canoeing in the ad were not wearing personal flotation devices.  It was (correctly) pointed out that this was contrary to our company's SafeProduction tools to ensure the management of risk whether at work, at home or at play.  Vale Inco regrets this oversight, and appreciates those that brought this matter to our attention so that in the future we can select appropriate images for our advertising that better reflect our employees' commitment to SafeProduction.
