Boyce praises Christmas concert, recruits for Baraboo

To the Editor:

I was amazed at the efforts and the quality of the performances in the Old Fashioned Christmas Concert Dec. 8 organized by Donna Wilson and the Thompson Citizen with other volunteers from A Port in the Storm. I had heard the Thompson Community Band before and again they lived up to their billing as the best band in Northern Manitoba.

The individual and small groups of singers were wonderful and David Wolfe needs to sing in public far more often. The students performing were great. The Twelve Days of Christmas was a great deal of fun and the two dance troupes involved were excellent considering the age of the performers.

These are some of the youngest performers in the city and they handled the pressure of performing for a huge audience with confidence and their backstage behaviour was professional in every way

One of them even shared a cookie with the Grinch. As for the Grinch himself ... he was grouchy, obnoxious and mean ... meaning himself in every way. The community got together to put on a show for the Port in a Storm and it was wonderful.

Now the community will start preparing for the next big extravaganza. Baraboo – the Last Show On Earth – is a science fiction musical about a circus that goes into outer space. The show has a cast of 160 and a crew of over 50.
Performers include members of The Ukrainian Dancers, Kelly Waterman Dance, Thompson Gymnastics Club, Deerwood, Juniper, Burntwood, Westwood, and Riverside and, of course, the host school, R.D. Parker, and the Thompson Citizen.

In the new year rehearsals shall be Wednesday nights and cast members can check either the Mystery Lake School District website or the Facebook group Baraboo Too Crew. The schedule will be posted by Dec. 15.

Thank you to the organizers of the Christmas concert for the opportunity to be a part of the concert and once again show my true personality.
